“Who can ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in His holy place?” Essentially, “who can stand in the presence of God without fear of his judgment?” This is the very question David answers in Psalm 24! This celebratory psalm is understood to be a song that God’s people sang as the ark of the covenant was brought into the Temple in Jerusalem after its construction was completed during the reign of King Solomon. Realizing this background and a quick read through the psalm, we can feel the temptation to question if this has anything to do with us at all. I would argue it has everything to do with us, because it testifies to the unchanging truth of the gospel. This is a celebratory psalm for us just as much as it was for Israel. My prayer this week is that as we work through this psalm together on Sunday, that we would see the truth of who we are in relation to the truth of who God is, and that we might be able to clarify “who is this King of glory?”
