This Sunday we come to chapter 3 in the book of Jonah, and 0ur text will be all ten verses (3:1-10). Chapter three begins with a familiar tune, something we’ve heard before. It begins in the same way chapter one begins, but Jonah’s response is drastically different. It’s almost as if he had spent three days and three nights in the belly of a great fish contemplating his sin and rebellion and God’s wonderful grace in his life! Jonah obeys the call of the Lord to go to Nineveh and proclaim the message the Lord would give him. What happens is as clear as the blue sky on a sunny day, but to be honest, it is hard to get the mind around what takes place in Nineveh. God moves mightily and a city, an entire city is changed! No doubt, skepticism starts to creep in and the questions surface, “Surely not the whole city?”. You read the text and tell me. I see a massive work of grace done amongst an evil and underserving people and I am inclined to believe that God is in the business of that kind of grace. There are so many implications from this chapter that we need to hear, believe and apply. May the Lord prepare our hearts for His Word!
