Sermon Preview – Week of March 20

This Sunday our preaching text will be Jonah 1:4-16. The scene in the narrative shifts from the place of the prophet Jonah’s rebellion to his foolish flight from the presence of the Lord. While Jonah’s attempt to run is in full view in this text, the author begins this scene with what is most important…the decisive action of God!  You see, while Jonah is on the run (and there is much to learn about our own rebellion in Jonah’s flight), the most important thing for us to know here is that God is pursuing His rebellious prophet. What character does this pursuit take on? What does it look like? What is involved? What is the goal? As you read and prepare this week for corporate worship, take note of the stark warnings from Jonah’s foolish flight, and take note of the elements of comfort and hope from God’s pursuit. May our gracious God draw us away from rebellion and into faith and obedience through His Word!
