The preaching text for Sunday will be John 12:27-36. Jesus has entered Jerusalem during the Passover Feast to shouts of “Hosanna” and the declaration of the people that he is indeed the “King of Israel”. The first event that John records after Jesus’ triumphal entry is a group of Gentile’s seeking an audience with Jesus. For Jesus, this signaled that it was time for the Son of Man to be glorified. In order to explain what he meant by that Jesus gave the analogy of a seed going into the ground to die in order bear fruit and give life. The point is, the glory of God in Jesus would come through his death on the cross. Now, in our text this week we see a very troubled Jesus getting more specific on what it means to be glorified. In other words, how exactly does his death bring glory to God? If someone were to ask you, “What did Jesus’ death on the cross accomplish?”, what would you say? Well, I think our text this week gives us the answer to that most important question. As you read the text this week see how many things you are able to spot that Jesus’ death accomplished, and think about why those things are important. May the Lord be worshiped and his people filled the joy of their salvation in the reading and applying of the Word!
