Week of December 19

This Sunday we have a unique opportunity and blessing, one that only comes around every so often. That is, we get to gather for congregational worship on Christmas day. We will worship together as we normally do on the Lord’s Day. We will read the Word of God together, sing the glorious truths of the gospel together, pray according to God’s Word and Will together, and we will preach the Word of God for His glory and our good. Our goal is to gather and worship for an hour (10:45-11:45), then dismiss everyone to the plans they have with family and friends for the day.

The preaching text for this Sunday is John 1:14-18. While the veracity of Jesus’ birth remains the same, John’s approach to narrating the birth of Jesus is a little different than Matthew or Luke’s approach. We don’t get as much of the history, but we get every bit of the theology, and theology matters! As we look at this account of Jesus’ birth my prayer is that our hearts affections are warmed for and stirred towards Jesus Christ.
