God’s Enduring Word

“The sum of your word is truth,
and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.” Psalm 119.160

There is no escaping this fact: God’s Word is unchanging. It is truth. His revelation is righteous. Scripture—every bit of it—is perfectly righteous, perfectly true, and eternally unchanging.

Don’t move too quickly past this. Let it sink in. God’s Word is perfect and unchanging. There is no sense in which the meaning or veracity of God’s Word changes over time. What it says about righteousness and truth, what it reveals about God, what it shows us about his will for our lives—endures forever!

Far to often we are willing to dismiss portions of God’s Word as being for some other time, for some other people, for some less-advanced culture. Such thinking is dangerous. All of Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for us (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Sure, the specific implications of God’s Word may be personal, but his truth is unchanging. His standard of righteousness is unchanging. Let’s cling to his Word, all of it.

What portions of God’s Word are you tempted to dismiss based on time and culture? How does the eternally righteous and true nature of God’s Word affect the way that you study it and apply it to your life?

Eternal God, we praise you for the grace of having your Word, your revelation to guide our lives. Teach us to love your law, O Lord, that we might treasure you and live by faith. Amen.
