Sermon Preview – Week of April 23

Our text this Sunday comes from the Gospel of Matthew chapter 6 starting in verse 24 and ending in verse 34. This word comes from Jesus’ great teaching known as The Sermon on the Mount. This specific section deals with the idol of money and materialism and directly relates to Jesus’ instruction to not be anxious about the preservation of our physical lives. We will see that idolatry and materialism are closely connected to anxiety about life, that God is a Father who can be trusted to provide for the needs of His people and that our primary focus ought to be seeking a greater kingdom rather then the temporal one many seek to build in this life. My hope is that we will be sensitive to the words of Jesus and consider seriously the weight of this teaching in our own lives and circumstances. Thanks be to God for His provision, His love and His great kingdom which we are called to live in!
