Sermon Preview – Week of January 23

This Sunday our preaching text will be Philippians 4:10-20. The past couple of weeks we have been considering Paul’s “last things” before closing out the letter. This falls into that category, but it is different than the previous two sections that we have considered. Whereas, in 4:2-7 and 4:8-9 we see these short, clear and helpful reminders being piled up on top of each other, in 4:10-20 we see a greater explanation from Paul on this point he wants to get across. I can only imagine how comforting, stirring and anchoring these words are for the Church in Philippi. So much can be said about this section of scripture,   as we see some of the most memorable verses in all of the Bible right here. But, nothing can be said about this passage without first saying that it is all about God, who is faithful to supply for the needs of His people. And, beyond that, the way in which God supplies for those needs should fill us with awe. This passage so clearly speaks to us today, it addresses so much of what we need to hear, and encourages us in all the right ways. Don’t miss out on the joy of meditating on the glorious truths of this text in preparation for congregational worship on Sunday. For God’s glory and our good!

Weekly Roundup For Your Weekend Reading

I am gathering articles that I have previously read and kept, or am reading throughout the week that will encourage, challenge and teach us in a wide range of areas. The plan is to provide two, three, maybe four articles at the end of each week, things you can read over the weekend. My hope in doing this is that it will give us another context to think about things that are “excellent and worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8). I am praying that it creates opportunities for us to talk with one another about things that are eternally significant and centered around the gospel. I hope it is helpful, may God be glorified and His Church edified!
