Service Preview – Sunday, September 9

Greetings Grace Community Baptist Church!

This past Sunday Josh Hayward reminded us of Jesus’ burden for the unity of his people from John 17:20-26. If you were unable to join us, you can listen to the sermon here:

Over the next couple months, guest preachers from various local churches will join us for our Sunday Worship Gathering. This Sunday, Max Smith, Pastor at Dayspring Fellowship in Austin, TX, will bring the Word of God to us through preaching.

Max was born again in 1972. He is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary where he earned MDiv and MChrEd degrees. Max is a retired Colonel from the US Army Reserves after 30 years of honorable service. He is now also retired from teaching high school math/physics after 34 years, and has taken a full-time pastoral position at Dayspring Fellowship. Max united with Dayspring in 1990 and was ordained as a Dayspring pastor in 1998. He serves as a Board member of Providence Theological Seminary. Max and Ann celebrated 40 years of marriage in 2015 with their four kids and seven grandkids. He is also a faithful Adult Sunday School teacher.

This Sunday he will be preaching from Romans 1:16-17. Through this passage, Max will remind us “The center of the Gospel is not only that believers are to live (receive spiritual rebirth) through it, but that the believers are to live (have the Gospel as the center and motivation of our sanctification) through it. Some theological systems teach that one is justified through the Gospel, but sanctified through the Law. The entire NT stresses that it is the Gospel that is used to save sinners in justification and the Gospel that God uses to transform saints in sanctification.”

As you look ahead to Sunday, take time this week to prepare your heart to hear from God’s Word by praying through the passages below and familiarizing yourself with the songs we’ll sing.
