“My tongue will sing of your word,
for all your commandments are right.” Psalm 119.172
The beloved poet continues to sing praise of God’s Word. In the previous verse he wrote of the effusive nature of his praise. His praise poured forth praise in reaction to understanding God’s Word. In this verse, we see the content of his effusive praise.
He sings of the Word of God. And, why does he do that? Because all of God’s revelation is right. God’s Word is inerrant, without the slightest taint of error. His testimonies are true. His commandments are righteous. His standards are wholly just. His will is perfect.
What other subject could be worthy of our singing? God’s Word ought to motivate and inform our praise, for it is the only inerrant guide for worship that we have. Remember, God desires that we worship him in spirit and in truth (John 4.23). The only way to ensure we do that is to know his truth.

Lord, we affirm with the psalmist that all your commandments are true. We praise you for revealing your true Word to us, for preserving it throughout the centuries. Teach us, heavenly Father, to worship you in spirit and in truth. Amen.
