Peace and Protection

“Great peace have those who love your law;
nothing can make them stumble.” Psalm 119.165

There is great security in the Word of God. The psalmist makes that point clear in this verse. Those who love the law have peace—they enjoy spiritual wholeness and spiritual prosperity. Loving the Word of God leads to divine favor.

Protection from stumbling and sin is one of the key aspects of that blessing. Those who love the law of God enjoy his protection—nothing can cause them to stumble. This promise encourages us. Scripture contains all that we need for life and godliness. Commitment to God’s Word, a devotion to divine revelation, protects us from stumbling.

We must not accept God’s Word begrudgingly, as though it were some burden to us. Rather, we should love the law of God. We should yearn for it. Scripture should captivate our affections. For, in it we find peace and protection from stumbling.

How deep is your love for God’s Word? In what ways does your life demonstrate a deep affection for the law of God? When is that last time that you praised the Lord for how his Word gives you peace and protection?

Gracious God, we thank you for your Word. Thank you for revealing yourself and your will to us in your law. Teach us to love your law, O Lord. Teach us to rejoice in your guidance and in your protection of our lives. We rejoice in you, our refuge. Amen.
