Sermon Preview – Week of June 26

This Sunday we are back in the Gospel of John, and we will be considering what is unquestionably the most recognized verse in all of Scripture. It is the verse that everyone in the Church and outside of the Church is familiar with in some way. It may be the only verse in the Bible that some people know or have ever heard. Our text for Sunday will be John 3:16. We should be very careful and cautious not to fall into the trap of treating this verse as commonplace. In other words, we should go to great lengths to know, believe and proclaim that John 3:16 is so much more than a mantra to recite, or a good luck charm to wear. It is the power of God for salvation, and those who don’t know this salvation remain under the just wrath of God due to their sin. The apostle John gives us, in this one verse, a wonderful summary of the gospel. What we find at the heart of the gospel (the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ) is the love of God. This coming Lord’s Day we will slow down in order to meditate on, press into and rejoice in the love of our great God. May the Lord attend you with His grace and mercy as you prepare for congregational worship on Sunday!
