Service Preview – Sunday, October 14

This coming Sunday, Joe Flahive will be bringing to us the Word of God. To help you prepare, he’s provided the following preview:

Regeneration and spiritual growth are great blessings that occur as the result of the move of the Spirit of God on the heart of man. But these are not the ultimate ends for which God brings regeneration and renewal to the world and His church. God’s final end in redeeming sinful people to himself, as in all that He does, is to advance His own glory.

The song of the angels at Christ’s birth confirms that the glory of God is the greatest and last end of the work of redemption, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace and good will towards men” (Lk 2:14). These words uttered by the angelic hosts affirm that God’s chief end in sending his Son, as ransom to save a people to himself was his own glory.

This Lord’s Day we will draw from the words of the apostle Paul during his ministry in Corinth as he gives irrefutable evidence that God’s chief end in redeeming sinners is his own glory. May God indeed be glorified in our midst as his Word establishes that man is not the center of God’s universe – but he himself!
